Eat the Sky, Drink the Ocean Launch

Just a quick mention of the Eat the Sky, Drink the Ocean launch which took place at Eltham High School yesterday afternoon, in truly Indian weather.

Stupidly I didn't think to take any photos (it's a bit awkward when you're one of the speakers!) but it was a wonderful event, chaired by Kirsty Murray, and featuring a plethora of speakers, including a representative from the Indian consulate, who selflessly sacrificed going to the India/South Africa World Cup cricket match at the MCG to be there. I also got to meet Mandy Ord, and hang out with Penni Russon and Nicki Greenberg, and hear their take on the experience of being Sky-Eaters and Ocean-Drinkers. I am continually fascinated by the range of collaborations this project has involved! and afterwards we got to gorge on samosas, curry puffs and lamingtons - a delicious combination.

Crow Country Flies To Bendigo

First there was a musical overture from Jida...

... followed by a welcome to country by Aunty Di Murray.

Jida gave us a wonderful performance, including some crow dance and 'waa' calls.

 The lovely and supremely efficient Kym Walker, who was responsible for organising the whole day, urged everyone to 'get off your mooms and buy these books!'

I talked a bit about Crow Country...

 ... then Paul Haw spoke about Footprints Across the Loddon Plains.

And then we could all relax and enjoy the emu and crocodile sausages!

BOOK LAUNCH! 

I'm very excited. Crow Country is going to be launched at La Trobe University, Bendigo, on Thursday 15th September, and I would be so thrilled to see you there.

If I haven't already sent you an invitation, rest assured, it's only because for some reason I don't have your email address. Please consider yourself invited, forthwith. Please come! It's going to be fun. There will be emu sausages, and kangaroo sausages, and crocodile sausages (and vegie stuff). There will be dancing. There will be speeches (short ones). There will even be another book launched at the same time (Footprints Across The Loddon Plains, by Paul Haw and Margaret Munro)!
